What are the ingredients in Slimming Herbs?

Although there are many products marketed as dietary supplements consisting solely of herbs, the FDA has indicated that hundreds of these products actually contain unapproved pharmaceutical ingredients that require a doctor's prescription and may pose a health risk. These substances, such as sibutramine and desmethyl sibutramine, have been withdrawn from the market in many countries.

cinnamon for weight loss

There are two main types of cinnamon, the first being Ceylon cinnamon, also known as Sri Lankan cinnamon or true cinnamon, and the second being cinnamon bark cinnamon, which is the most common today.

The benefits of cinnamon for weight loss

Chinese cinnamon is thought to help reduce the risk of obesity, but research is still needed to prove this effect. It should be noted that there is some evidence that daily consumption of Ceylon cinnamon for two to three months does not lead to weight loss, whereas eating cinnamon alone does not lead to weight loss, but adding cinnamon to a healthy diet and exercise does. In addition to its effect on blood sugar levels, it also has adverse effects.

Other studies on the weight loss benefits of cinnamon

review of several studies published in 2016 in the Iranian Journal of Basic Medicine addressed metabolic syndrome through its associated symptoms, as its consumption lowered blood pressure, blood sugar and fat levels, and reduced waist-to-hip measurement ratios, BMI and other indicators of obesity. A study published in a journal on overweight or obese pre-diabetic patients showed that cinnamon, chromium and carnosine supplements reduced fasting diabetes levels and increased lean body mass in participants. The study noted that the benefits of these supplements were greater in people with higher fasting blood sugar levels.

Frequently asked questions about the weight loss benefits of cinnamon

Can cinnamon help prevent the accumulation of fat?

One of the preliminary laboratory studies conducted on the compound cinnamaldehyde, a constituent of cinnamon, showed that this compound is effective in promoting the metabolism of human fat cells. However, it should be noted that this effect has not been proven and further research is needed to confirm it. A laboratory study conducted on a group of mice in 2017 showed that eating cinnamon increased the number of brown cells. The use of adipose tissue (bright cells) can increase calorie consumption in mice and reduce obesity. Of note is a component of cinnamon called polylipids, which can improve oxidative stress, hyperlipidaemia, body weight, visceral fat and insulin.

Is cinnamon oil suitable for weight loss?

Cinnamon oil is a very effective way of slimming down the body. Cinnamon oil is extracted from the bark and leaves of several trees, including Ceylon cinnamon and Chinese cinnamon, the latter being the most common. Cinnamon oil is also unsafe and is mainly used topically as it can cause side effects such as diarrhoea, vomiting, dizziness and irritation to certain body tissues.
